Babette
BAR & RESTAURANT BRANDING
A local neighbourhood bar & brasserie with an “it doesn’t matter” approach. Food wine and mistakes, come as you are.
Based in South East London, Babette is a Bar and Brasserie with an ‘it doesn’t matter’ approach. A casual neighbourhood joint for people wanting to share basic but brilliant-staple food. Food, wine and mistakes. Come as you are. Serving sharing boards of plentiful food, great wines and Sunday roasts, most of the menu changes daily whilst keeping some fixed staple dishes. Simple, unfussy words keep the menu brief and to the point. French owned and inspired, founder Babette wanted to reflect the underground Parisian vibe of the 1950/60’s, with a strong notion that ‘to show a little bit of something is more interesting than showing a lot’. Capturing mistakes as pieces of beauty, not errors that must be hidden, was also a key value for Babette. Photography by Alex Appleby captures this beautifully – shot on 35mm film giving imagery texture and a nothing-to-hide approach. The logo itself has been made to be unfinished, with letters purposefully altered. The colours used are ‘almost black’ and menus are a mix of collage and simple letterheads for scribbles.
